What is the Transparency Act?

The Openness Act came into force in Norway on 1 July 2022. The act imposes on large and medium-sized companies - like us at Etman - an obligation to provide information and a duty to carry out due diligence assessments.

The purpose of the new Transparency Act is for Norwegian companies to gain a better overview of the risk of violations of human rights and working conditions in the production of goods and services. The general public is given access to information about how businesses handle negative consequences for basic human rights and decent working conditions. The Norwegian Consumer Protection Authority is responsible for supervising the law.

What does the Transparency Act mean for us?

As a result of the Openness Act, Etman Norge is strengthening its efforts. The board of Etman has, among other things, decided on guidelines for due diligence assessments with regard to fundamental human rights, the ILO's core conventions, Article 32 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and national legislation for employee rights that applies to the entire supply chain. Etman will carry out due diligence assessments, mapping, prevention, and limitations and give an account of how our own business and our supply chain handle any negative impact on employee and human rights. Part of our strategy is that we can and must always improve. To ensure compliance with the Transparency Act, we will use the OECD's guide for due diligence assessments.

When entering into a supplier agreement with our subcontractors, we will ask that the supplier signs our contract terms and our Code of Conduct, which is otherwise available on our websites.

Obligation to provide information

In accordance with the law, from and including 30 June 2023 we will publish an annual report on our work with due diligence assessments on our website.

By written request, anyone can ask for information about how we handle the actual and potential negative consequences that we map and assess through the risk and due diligence assessments.

We can announce that we take the Transparency Act very seriously have anchored the responsibility in the management, and are in the process of drawing up the necessary guidelines. We ask for some time before we can present the results of the due diligence assessments.

You can contact us by sending an e-mail to john.terje.skaara@etman.no for activities in Norway, or to jan.tore.skarland@etman.no for group inquiries or our activities outside Norway.

As a general rule, we will respond to your request within three weeks of receipt.
